Batty Barons

For Labor Day we decided to travel down to Austin and San Antonio. We had so much fun! It is so nice to get away from our stinky apartment and take a couple of days to see the rest of Texas! We started the trip by going to downtown Austin so we could watch the largest urban bat colony fly out from under a bridge. Don’t worry… we didn’t get rabies, but we did see 1.5 million bats fly. It was pretty neat! Our pictures didn't turn out because we were trying to take pictures of black bats at night... but you get the idea. We also went to San Antonio and checked out the Alamo and the Riverwalk. We really didn't go with any expectations and we were pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was. Spring break 2009 anyone? Hint Hint... We watched an IMAX about the Alamo so we would know what we were seeing and one thing we learned was that Davey Crockett was killed at the Alamo. We're becoming history buffs (albeit very slowly.) This was what I was MOST excited for! There was WAY too much to see inside, but I look forward to going back soon. This is random- I know, but we think these cows make Oreos. Study the picture- don't they look like Oreo cows?

Looking good Mandy! When is your due date again? I'm glad you are exploring Texas now cause once baby comes, traveling is a lot tougher, even day trips, but it is totally worth it.

Thanks Ginny- I'm to the point where I just feel fat! I'm due November 12th so about 2 more months!

Oh my, I honestly have never seen cows like that. In all my cow days (which are quite a few).. yeah, have to be oreo cows!

Ohhh my, PB Outlet?! Is everything super cheap? At the Down East Home here there are Pottery Barn everything. Things that are just a little scratched. I might get a crib from there someday.

Those are the best looking oreo's I've ever seen. I'll bet they would taste better than any I've had before too.

Hooray for trips! I've always wanted to see the Alamo. I grew up watching the movie about Davey Crockett, so I did know that he died there, but still. Way cool!

You look cute Mandy. Do you have any weird cravings?

No more crazy cravings, but I can now officially say I can eat my weight in food! Impressive- huh?

You are no fat person. When you are pregnant and fat, you can't tell if they are pregnant or not. I can tell you are pregnant which is an awesome thing. I still look like I'm pregnant, which is not an amazing thing since I have that sweet baby in my arms. But it takes awhile to go back to the way you are before, which I know. I guess I just have to be patient with myself. I'm glad you guys are exploring and having a good time. Have fun baby shopping. That is always my favorite part.

Yea for trips. So does this bat colony fly out every night? Pretty random thing to see but sometimes those things end up being amazing memories.

How are the crib bumpers going? My main advice is to try and get them finished before the baby comes since it's hard to feel like working on them when you're recovering and so busy. I want to see pictures when you're done :).

Good luck with this last trimester. It's the least comfortable but at least the end is in sight! We miss you guys! Are you going to be in CO at all during Christmastime?

Um, I would like to own some of those oreo cows please. The bats however sound disgusting. I seriously hope this was not another jaded attempt for Andrew to become Batman:)

I can't believe we were in Austin at the same time, and we did the same things and didn't see eachother! We went to the pottery barn outlet and tried to see the bats, which never really made an appearance. Where did you stand?
